Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG); Sustainable Investing

What if your investments and pensions could change our world?

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) investments, commonly known as Ethical or Sustainable investing, is becoming increasingly important to our clients.

It refers to investing which prioritises ESG factors or outcomes. ESG investing is widely seen as a way of investing “sustainably”—where investments are made with consideration of the environment and human wellbeing, as well as the economy. It is based upon the growing assumption that the financial performance of organisations is increasingly affected by environmental and social factors.

The principles of ESG investing are nothing new, however the growing prominence of corporate social responsibility (CRS) and social sustainability has led to increased investor awareness about ethical participation in the market.

More people are starting to think about environmental issues, such as climate change, social issues, how businesses themselves are run and the sustainability issues that impact the world, both now and critically in years to come.

Socially responsible portfolios allow you to align your investments with your values, placing an emphasis on these factors, rather than purely focusing on capital returns. Ethical investing starts with your ideas and principles.

Your thoughts and values can now be reflected in your Investment Planning

One of the largest global initiatives is the United Nations Global Compact, which was launched in 2000, and is a collaboration between some of the leading global companies and the United Nations.

In 2015, 150 United Nations member states agreed a set of universal goals to address some of the worlds’ key challenges by 2030.

Over $30 trillion* is now invested according to environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria.

These type of investments are now one of the fastest growing areas of finance, moving from a niche offering to a mainstream consideration.

Equally importantly, there is no evidence to suggest that investing in ESG-compliant companies will  detrimentally effect the performance of your investment portfolios.
